
John Dobbs Leffler, 87 of Indianapolis passed away March 24, 2016 surrounded by his family. John was born on August 17, 1928 in Fort Worth, Texas to the late William Leffler and Lona Parchman. John was a devoted Christian and his love for the Lord showed daily. He was a member of Tallwood Chapel Church where he attended for years. John served our country during the WWII in Italy as a medic. He was married to Liddie Hicks for 39 years before losing her to emphysema 1994. John worked as an experimental machinist at Diamond Chain Company and taught machine shop at Arsenal Technical High School for years. John, a proud Texan, enjoyed reading, talking politics, playing Santa Claus, working at the flea market, watching television, and the different activities at Crestwood Village.
John is survived by his son, John (Pam) Leffler; daughter, Tammie Bailey; grandson, John David (Sarah) Leffler; granddaughter, Michelle Bailey; great-grandson, Jonathan James Robert Leffler.
John always gave to charities but a few of his favorites are St. Jude’s Children Hospital, VFW, Gleaners Food Bank, American Indians, and his church, Tallwood Chapel Church. Because of his love to give back the family has requested that in lieu of flowers a donation be made to Tallwood Chapel Church,? 5560 Shelby Street?.
?Memorial Service will be held Monday, March 28, 2pm at Southport Presbyterian Church, 7525 McFarland Blvd, Indianapolis. Visitation one hour prior to service. Burial will be held at a later date. Please visit John’s online guestbook at www.indianafuneralcare.com
